Human Resource Specialist, Separation Agreements


This position is responsible for quickly assessing and identifying resources to assist clients and service providers regarding worksite employee terminations involving severance and separation agreements. Identifies compliance requirements affecting human resource functions and ensures client procedures adhere to federal, state and government reporting requirements while ensuring consistency of service delivery. Acts as the primary point of contact for Insperity-prepared and client-prepared separation agreements. Addresses client inquiries while retaining ownership of the delivery of customized documents for client separation and layoff needs. Works closely with the Insperity Legal department and Equity Payroll.

  • Aligns PEO services specific to employee terminations, severance, and separation agreements to provide high level support to the field with preparing, reviewing, and finalizing legal separation agreements.
  • Consults with internal clients, provides guidance, prepares Insperity-prepared separation agreements, and reviews client-prepared separation agreement documents.
  • Uses knowledge from existing state and federal compliance laws and stays current with upcoming contract legislation to help identify their application and impact on client separation agreement needs.
  • Maintains advanced knowledge of all tools and resources. Reviews and recommends improvements to tools and resources. Responsible for interfacing with internal partners on changes and updates as needed.
  • Consults with Service Operations personnel to provide guidance and service, focusing on mitigating risks to Insperity when a separation agreement is involved.
  • Prepares Agreement to Process separation payments and coordinates communications to Service Operations personnel, Legal, Insperity Contracts group and Insperity CFO.
  • Serves as liaison to Service Operations personnel for Equity-Based Compensation Group when Equity or Non-Qualified Deferred Compensation Agreement to Process is required.
  • Uses appropriate methods of emotional intelligence to effectively manage behavior in a variety of business circumstances, including interactions with the field, internal partners, and clients.
  • Leads process for separation agreements that require review and approval of several departments such as Corporate Payroll, Legal and Field Payroll.
  • Works closely with HR COE Advisor team to recommend reviews for policy improvements.
  • Stays abreast of all new or revised federal, state, and local employment laws in the areas of contracts and separation.
  • Coordinates and assigns information and workflow between the HR COE and other relevant departments.
  • Develops and presents formal training presentations for the field in a clear, concise, and logical sequence at a level appropriate to the audience.
  • Resolves assigned issues, identifies opportunities to strategically engage Field Service providers and provides sound guidance in each interaction ensuring effective and efficient client utilization of separation agreement process.
  • Stays up to date on technology needs and provides recommendations to improve effectiveness and efficiency of processes in order to maintain service level agreements.
  • Uses Insperity client management systems and databases to capture client requests and interactions.
  • Maintains necessary tracking mechanisms and makes recommendations for improving performance standards and measurements.
  • Serves as liaison to outside counsel for translation services associated with Insperity-prepared separation agreement templates.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field is required.
  • Three to five years of related Human Resource Generalist, Contract Administration or Legal Assistance experience is required.


  • Professional or Senior Professional in Human Resources (PHR, SPHR) and/or SHRM Certified Professional or Senior Professional (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SPC) certification preferred.


  • Demonstrated strong and effective communication skills; written and oral.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve thoroughness and accuracy on a specific task or number of tasks.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office programs with special emphasis on Excel and Word, experience using customer relationship management software, and demonstrated ability to learn other applications or hardware, as needed.
  • Strong, positive customer service skills with both internal and external customers, as well as in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated effective problem-solving abilities, decisiveness, and flexibility.
  • Ability to determine and utilize appropriate methods of dealing with human behavior in a variety of business circumstances.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, handling frequent interruptions and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to handle very sensitive information in a discreet, confidential manner.
  • Proficient in the design and delivery of presentations.
  • High level of experience and proficiency in managing multiple projects.
