Medical Billing Collections Specialist

As the Medical Billing and Collection Specialist, you will ensure accurate billing, timely submission of electronic and/or paper claims, monitor claim status, research rejections and denials, document related account activities, post adjustments and collections of claims. You must possess critical thinking skills and understanding of eligibility requirements as well as payer payment methods to correctly record contractual adjustments base on payer contracts. In addition, you must be able to demonstrate proficiency with billing system to ensure all functionality is utilized for the utmost efficient processing of claims.

Your responsibilities as the Medical Billing Collections Specialist will include:

  • Calling insurance companies to confirm patient policy information
  • Following up with insurance companies on billing and reimbursement discrepancies
  • Confirm insurance plan and policy effective/term dates
  • Confirm prior-authorization requirements by calling insurances or utilizing insurance provider portals
  • Reviewing medical records and verifying medical necessity
  • Manage multiple tasks
  • Assist multiple teams and work assigned projects
  • Submitting adjustment and refund requests
  • Reviewing insurance EOB/Remittance Advice and Posting Payments and Adjustments
  • Reconciling and Auditing Posted Payment Lines
  • Reviewing AR Aging Reports and submitting accounts to third party collections

You should have:

  • Medical Billing Collections experience
  • Familiarity with Insurance Billing and Reimbursement guidelines
  • Reviewing and understanding Medical Records
  • Reviewing and understanding Insurance EOB/Remittance Advice
  • Some familiarity with Medical CPT/HCPC’s
  • Some familiarity with Medical Diagnosis ICD 10 Codes
