About You
We are looking to hire a Program Design and Implementation Manager to work on new programs, as well as iterate on existing programs. In this role, you’ll be doing hands-on work to enact program work plans and ultimately solve complex problems at the intersection of nonprofit programs, government services, and philanthropic investments.

Program Managers are core to the Connective team. You’ll be in charge of shaping how we work with community partners to address key social services challenges. Our current programs include eviction prevention, disaster response coordination, quick and efficient financial assistance distribution, and unlocking access to public benefits. Each program manager typically focuses on one or two programs at a time. You’ll be most successful in this role with prior program management, project management, design management, or strategy experience. You’ll also bring a sense of self-motivation to improve a program for those who access its resources and a strong desire to center equity and justice in your work.

You’ve managed a successful program or project with independence. You strive to strengthen and optimize a program’s key systems and processes. You identify gaps and iterate on existing solutions to make them even better. You are able to think about the big picture while also getting down into the details and staying organized. Due to your hard work, programs exceed their goals more often than not. Ideally, you’ve worked on a program or project, with a significant CRM or other technology component, for all or most of its full life cycle, from design to implementation to outcomes analysis.

You’re an adaptable doer. You manage competing priorities and push a high volume of deliverables across the finish line. You generate project plans, engage cross-functional teammates, and escalate risks in a timely manner. When tasked with something new, you embrace uncertainty and hit the ground running.

You’re a data-informed problem solver. You relish complex questions. Uncertainty and future possibilities excite you. You ask the right questions of the quantitative and qualitative data at your disposal, and you know how to use formulas, lookups, and PivotTables in Excel to help answer these questions. You then use the data to translate hypotheses into actionable plans. When time is of the essence, you make quick and astute data-informed decisions. You communicate what you learn with your team, work with teammates to iterate on solutions and measure the success of your work.

You’re experienced in or curious about design thinking. From using mobile apps to registering to vote, you’re naturally critical of products, services, and processes that aren’t as user friendly as they could be. You empathize with people caught in red tape, and you’re excited about using good design to improve social services. You understand that building a program or tool that accounts for the end user’s needs and abilities leads to better outcomes for all stakeholders.

You’re an effective communicator. Strong interpersonal skills are a must. Your emails and written deliverables are persuasive, clear and concise. You ask good questions in meetings to gather information and build consensus. You’ve had experience crafting and delivering presentations that move a program forward.

You’re eager to work on some of society’s toughest challenges. Connective is here to transform social services in the face of a lack of affordable housing, soaring healthcare and childcare costs, and mounting natural disasters exacerbated by climate change, among other issues. Not only are these some of Houston’s most urgent problems, but they also apply to the rest of the country. You’re ready to roll up your sleeves and apply your consulting skills to the greater good.

You’re an equity and justice champion. You listen to historically marginalized communities, center their voices, and take action against continued systemic oppression. Connective is committed to improving systems in ways that lead to equitable outcomes on our team and in the communities we serve.

You’ve excelled in a prior program management, project management, design management, or strategy role. You have at least two years of high-caliber work experience in one of these areas and have worked closely with senior external stakeholders. This could be in any sector (private, public, or nonprofit). Ideally, you have also held some supervisory responsibilities.

Things You’ll Do

  • Design, implement, and manage a new intake and referral systems for Connective programs, including but not limited to access to public benefits, case management, rental assistance, eviction support services, direct financial assistance, and home repair.
  • Manage programs in an iterative, Agile way (e.g., adaptive planning, evolutionary development, early delivery, and continual improvement of projects and programs).
  • Think critically about client experience, both related to client interactions with technology and how the people trying to help interact with that technology.
  • Understand a complex network of social service organizations, their priorities, and their service capacities in order to proactively solve problems and remove roadblocks for clients.
  • Facilitate and lead change management efforts with partner organizations in a collective action model.
  • Train and guide staff (often external) and vendors tasked with program execution.
  • Make continuous improvements to Connective’s programs to enhance client experience and access to services.
  • Liaise with and deliver presentations to stakeholders and partners.
  • Initiate, set, and execute on program objectives, in collaboration with stakeholders and the Connective leadership team.

Your Compensation and Benefits

  • Your annual base salary range for this role is $60,000 – $80,000. Annual bonuses are offered based on your contributions and performance.
  • You’ll receive a 401(k) employer match of up to 6%.
  • On day one, you’ll have access to quality, affordable health insurance coverage (includes medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, and life insurance). You can also choose to participate in an HSA or FSA.
  • You’ll be encouraged to prioritize your work life balance and will receive 20 days of PTO/floating holidays, plus 11 paid company holidays, per calendar year.
  • If you have or adopt a child, you’ll be entitled to 8 weeks of parental leave at 100 percent of the employee’s regular weekly pay, and an additional 4 weeks at 50 percent. 4 additional weeks may be taken without pay.
  • You’ll have access to a comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which includes mental health and legal resources for you and family members, even if they’re not your dependents.
  • You’ll join a Houston-based, local remote team that offers both flexibility and opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and partners.
  • You are welcome to work from anywhere for a week at a time while maintaining Houston working hours. Additional work-from-anywhere flexibility is offered in the summer and around the winter holidays. After three years with Connective, employees have the option to work permanently from anywhere in the U.S. while maintaining Houston working hours and traveling to Houston or elsewhere as needed.
