We are searching for an energetic, results-driven lending professional to join its dynamic Executive Leadership Team.

As our ideal candidate, you will be involved in making organizational and strategic decisions and responsible for directing and monitoring day-to-day member services, lending, real estate, and collection operations, ensuring that established goals and objectives are met. As the Vice President of Lending, you will participate in establishing a budget of operations, including incentive plans, and ensures team functions within budget and goals are met. You must maintain current knowledge of compliance issues and formulate or recommend changes in operating procedures and policies accordingly. You will be expected to lead in the development of new products and services, drive a sales and service culture, and develop the staff within the department. You will also ensure the Credit Union maintains adequate levels of capital, liquidity, and pricing spreads, oversee and maintain loan analytics and be responsible for the oversight and development of the commercial and indirect lending program. Excellent leadership, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative fast paced environment are essential. Excellent underwriting skills are required for the position. You must have the ability to apply flexible decisions while controlling risk and participate on the Asset/Liability Committee.

To be successful, you should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field, or equivalent knowledge gained through a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience building a profitable loan portfolio.
  • Experience in commercial lending and underwriting
  • Strong sales experience, sales skills, and marketing
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply loan policies and objectives to banking activities.
  • Excellent analytical skills and abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interact and participate as a team player focusing on building internal and external relationships.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in banking, lending, or financial services, which must include a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Effectively communicate with employees, officers, and committees; ability to effectively communicate technical information – verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple tasks, and projects and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment in the analysis of credit transactions.

Your responsibilities as the VP of Lending will include:

  • Must be sales oriented, have strong problem-solving skills, be proficient in project management, budgeting, and regulatory requirements, and have the ability to analyze products, programs, statistics, and financial data that will assist SMW Financial Credit Union in reaching its strategic goals.
  • Oversees and leads all Consumer, Commercial, Indirect, Credit Card, Real Estate Lending, and Collection staff to drive department and branch loan sales volume to achieve yearly loan production goals.
  • Maintains a highly trained, highly skilled, motivated staff sufficient to meet consumer loan demands; ensures service level standards are met or exceeded and the team is delivering quality results and complaints with members are resolved, seeking a positive solution without placing the credit union at risk.
  • Supervises the lending staff to ensure that all loans are properly underwritten and secured by acceptable collateral. Ensures staff adherence to credit union regulations, by-laws, policies, and procedures. Responsible for quality control and documentation compliance in Consumer and Real Estate lending.
  • Build/promote third-party alliances such as debt protection, GAP, MRC, identity theft protection, etc. to increase non-interest income.
  • Ensures continuous learning and development through trainings/courses, seminars, and/or other skills enhancement opportunities for themselves and their department.
  • Works with the Marketing team to plan and develop marketing initiatives designed to improve lending product usage, increase average loan balances, and communicate the desired lending image to members and potential member borrowers. 
  • Oversees underwriting standards and loan policy commensurate with risk in our lending environment. Monitors the results of the credit union’s loan operations and recommends changes to meet growth and service goals. Analyzes loan data to identify trends and makes recommendations for driving loan sales volume. Compares activity with predetermined objectives and initiates the revised processes required to continuously improve lending productivity and profitability. 
  • Assure quality experience to all members, employees, and businesses. Ensures escalated disputes.
  • Aids in the coordination of all Supervisory Committee, board meetings, NCUA, State, and external audits.
  • Participates in community events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
