Director, DevSecOps

We are currently seeking a Director, DevSecOps to join our team. This position is responsible for refining DevSecOps practices and developing a strategic vision for technological progression. A key responsibility is to evaluate and enhance DevSecOps processes. This role is also responsible for making informed decisions, communicating the value of these initiatives to both company leadership and teams, and understanding the importance of measuring success and iterating processes for continuous improvements.


Responsibilities: 

  • Leads and makes critical strategic decisions that directly impacts the capacity to provide value to customers, ensuring these decisions support and aligns with organizational goals.
  • Develops, formulates, and communicates a detailed strategy for embedding DevSecOps into the organizational framework.
  • Builds an internal DevSecOps playbook by collaborating with cross-functional teams to define and establish best practices and standards for DevSecOps within the organization.  
  • Ensures security process improvements by establishing and embedding automated security practices within the DevSecOps workflow, fostering a continuous and proactive focus on software security across the organization.
  • Leads the design and implementation of robust Continuous Integration (CI)/Continuous Deployment (CD) pipelines to automate software delivery processes.
  • Champions the adoption of DevSecOps best practices, ensuring they are integral to standard operating procedures.
  • Develops training programs that ensures teams are skilled to follow those practices.
  • Establishes and analyzes key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to gauge the effectiveness of DevSecOps initiatives. Uses these insights to drive iterative improvements and refine processes continually.
  • Articulates the impact and value of DevSecOps initiatives to company leadership, ensuring alignment with business objectives. 
  • Fosters strong collaboration between Development, Operations, and other Cross-Functional Teams, working closely with stakeholders to understand and address infrastructure and deployment requirements. 
  • Makes hiring decisions through a targeted selection process of behavioral interviewing to obtain future leaders.
  • Coaches, mentors, and leads leaders through clear expectations and line of sight to business strategy with solid understanding of operations.
  • Provides employees with timely, candid, and constructive feedback, endeavors to develop employees to their full potential, recognizes and rewards employees for accomplishments, conducts timely one-on-ones, and prepares and conducts annual performance reviews.
  • Builds inclusive and collaborative partnerships across multiple departments, with various approaches to influence and plan work around common goals.
  • Makes decisions and communicates in a way that connects people, tasks, and resources to achieve business objectives.
  • Supports the business by building high performing teams, coaching leaders through team development, and achievement of business objectives.
  • Sets high standards and expectations for achieving goals.  
  • Develops and executes plans with input from multiple teams, establishing accountability and clarity.  
  • Creates measurements and performance indicators for monitoring progress and holding teams accountable to achieving business results.
  • Recognizes the need for change across the department, oversees the development of change plans, looks for continuous improvement opportunities, monitors internal and external business conditions, and reports progress. Takes accountability to implement change, create momentum, and influence others through intentional communication.


Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, a related discipline, or equivalent work experience is required. 
  • Ten or more years of related work experience is required.
  • Five or more years of leadership experience in DevSecOps and related roles is required.
  • Experience working with Agile Teams and Frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban is required.
  • Expertise in source control, containerization tools, IAC practices, CI/CD pipelines, and scripting/programming languages. 
  • Expertise in automated security testing tooling and practices.
  • Expertise in application performance management practices including monitoring and instrumentation tools.
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure as code (IAC) practices using tools like Ansible, Puppet, and Terraform. 
  • Exceptional communication, decision-making, and strategic planning skills. 
  • Ability to measure success and iterate on processes for continuous improvement.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities. 
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement and the ability to drive change. 
  • Proven ability to lead change.
  • Strong interpersonal and consultative skills and experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to conduct research into emerging technologies and trends, standards, and products as required.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified DevSecOps Engineer, Microsoft Certified: Azure DevSecOps Engineer Expert, or similar.
