Executive Assistant and Board Liaison – Hybrid 

 

The Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB) is seeking an experienced Executive Assistant and Board Liaison to serve at the center of executive leadership, higher education governance, and nonprofit operations. Reporting directly to the President/CEO, this strategic role partners closely with the Executive Office and Board of Directors to ensure seamless board relations, executive support, and governance administration. This position is ideal for a seasoned executive assistant professional with experience in association management, higher education leadership, and board governance who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. By driving operational excellence, board engagement, and executive coordination, you will enable senior leadership to focus on institutional strategy, organizational impact, and the advancement of higher education.

To succeed as the Executive Assistant and Board Liaison, you should have:        

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline with seven or more years of executive support experience supporting a President/CEO or senior leadership team, preferably within a higher education association, nonprofit organization, or membership-based organization; experience supporting a Board of Directors and governance committees preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and virtual collaboration platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams), with the ability to develop executive-level presentations, board materials, and governance documentation.
  • Solid organizational, customer service, and stakeholder communication skills, including exceptional written and verbal communication abilities and discretion in handling confidential executive and board information.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-performance, collaborative environment, effectively support volunteer board members, and travel occasionally within the continental United States.

 

Your responsibilities as the Executive Assistant and Board Liaison will include:        

  • Serving as a trusted liaison and gatekeeper for the President’s Office, prioritizing executive communications and ensuring alignment with strategic governance objectives.
  • Preparing executive correspondence, board briefings, meeting materials, and leadership presentations to support internal operations and external stakeholder engagement.
  • Managing executive calendar coordination, travel logistics, expense reporting, and document management systems to ensure efficient administrative operations.
  • Maintaining official board records, governance policies, compliance certifications (e.g., conflict of interest documentation), and trustee profiles to support best practices in nonprofit governance.
  • Supporting board engagement and governance infrastructure, including committee coordination, new trustee orientation, and facilitation of board participation in conferences and higher education events.

AGB is a hybrid workplace. This position is expected to spend a minimum of three (3) days per week in our headquarters office in downtown Washington, D.C. Applicants should reside in the District of Columbia, Virginia, or Maryland and be within a reasonable commuting distance of downtown Washington, D.C.
